For instructions on how to install Windows 8 ToGo on a USB drive go to:
Follow the installation instructions and install Windows ToGo. After all the initial settings have been set and Windows has started, then it will be time to install some application.
To get the most out of Windows 8 ToGo we need the right apps. Apps that can be run inside our Windows ToGo as well as being able to run this apps on any other cmoputer we want and be able to access our files from Windwos ToGo on any system.
For the applications we will be using the portableapp suite, therefore go to www.portableapps.com/download get the file and run it.
When the option to select the kind of installation, "New Install" would be the option that would suit better for this occation. Then on the next prompt "Portable" would be the option to select. Then make sure to install it to the root of the USB drive that has the Windows ToGo. When completed choose "Automatically start the platform with Windows".
Now get the "Start.exe" from another USB drive that has the portableapps suite installed or create a batch file to run "/portableapps\portableapps.com\portableappsplatform.exe"
From portableapps menu select apps and then categories and get the applications that would work the best for you.
In my case I will be getting quite a few apps:
AIMP or CoolPlayer
Windwos Error Lookup
Go to www.ninite.com to download some additional software that will only be run on Windows ToGo. These ones are different from the portableapps because these applications wont be able to run on every computer, therefore try to select as little applications as possible. In my case I selected:
To me these are the only applications that were required since I like having the start button at the bottom left corner of Windows. Although 7-zip was downloaded as a portable app. It was also downloaded because when istalled on the system it will add options for when right clicking files. PDFCreator its useful for to print to PDF.
On a following post I will be setting up the user folders in order to maximaze the experience of Windows ToGo as well as when the flash drive its plugged into a system already running Windows.
